Osborn, a native of Rockport, Ind., was the daughter of lawyer Lane B. Osborn. By 1919 the family had moved to Evansville, Ind. Osborn earned her A.B. and A.M. degrees in English from Indiana University in 1919 and 1920, and remained there to teach for two years.
